Dr Simmy Bezeng

PhD in Botany - University of Johannesburg

Simmy Bezeng completed his PhD in Botany from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa in 2015. He is an Invasion Biologist, with a diverse interest in using modern technological innovations to understand the drivers of biodiversity loss.

Bezeng is a certified IUCN Red List and Key Biodiversity Areas Trainer and works primarily across several African countries to support capacity-building initiatives to develop National Red Lists (species and ecosystems) and the identification of Key Biodiversity Areas. Along with heading up the Regional Conservation Programme at BirdLife South Africa, Bezeng is a staff member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) Chair’s Office. Additionally, he is a member of the following groups within the IUCN SSC network - Hornbill, and Invasive Species Specialist Groups and Steering and Red List Committees.
